I started my business management course last week at the College of TAFE, and got my campus changed to Midland, from Thornlie. There are not more than two teachers and I have to go there only twice a week, because 4 out of 10 subjects are offered and meant to be completed online.
The train from Thornlie train station runs every 30-40 min. And it takes me a bus and a train to get to that station, from my home. Overall, it takes about 1.5 hrs but if I miss the above train, it would take me 2 hrs +++, and I did not find the suburb that amusing, to spend so much time for commuting or even being there.
I know there is MIDLAND ATELIER, over in Midland and I am definitely going to pay a visit soon!
The negative thing that I find about these presentations online is the lack of creativity- they are full of stock photos of people shaking hands, people at discussion meetings with full focused expressions on their faces, people in suits and trousers, in the most boring colours and the most boring conference rooms. With respect to objects, there are those "hammers" for legal requirements- slides, "super-zoomed in closeups of calculator keys", expensive looking fat pens, with gold borders, expensive looking leather upholstery, expensive looking jarrah or other heavy wood tables. With respect to respecting multiculturalism, there is usually a white man AND a white woman- a blonde and/or a dark haired, a Chinese-looking woman, a black or African looking man. There are rarely any slides with Indian men, Chinese-looking men and pure Latin men.
Aboriginal men and women, Indian women and Black African women, red haired people do not exist.

After completing class 11th and 12th, in the science stream in India, I turned to design for education. I think the best part of those 3-4 years of education was the visual presentations in classroom. As we dealt with all those images, objects and ideologies, a sense of forever "reading" imagery was inculcated into our minds.
Today, if I watch a film or see an advertisement on TV, or print, I am almost always reading between the lines, reading the negative spaces - the things that do not exist in an image, with respect to the things that do exist. And then I can calculate the idea and the politics behind the language and imagery.
But now, its time, to read those lines of documentation rules, those paragraphs of "should be" and "must be".
NO questions shall be asked, because there are only fullstops at the end of every statement being made. It is no longer subjective.
Still, in order to keep me hooked on, with interest, to the information being given, and to stimulate both sides of my brain, I feel they could have "cooler" clothes doing business in their presentation slides, such as...
Kanye west
