Few weeks back my teacher, Wilma posted a link on Facebook.com about another blog. That is a collaborative/collective effort. It is called The Difference of 25.
The purpose of this blog is to promote different styles/methods/voices of art created by individuals like you and me. According to Roos, the creator, "You will see the many differences and uniqueness of us all, although we work with one and the same theme."
We will be given a theme and a size each month and we have to work with these and create an image.. This could be a photo, sketch, painting, sculpture, anything. I was a bit busy with some assignments this month, so I was not able to give in too much time to this, however, I was quite keen on participating in the first round. So I sent my "self-portrait" in - This was the theme of the first blog post.
There would be 25 or so members who would be sending in their artworks and Roos will be making a collage out of them.
Each of us is unique. It could be a matter of subjectivity as to whose artwork is better, yet we will be able to know how much time, effort and thought went into each piece.
Last month, I volunteered at the Awesome Arts holiday workshops for a few days. Children are so smart and with the freedom of speech, they can indeed create inspiring works, within minutes in these workshops.
So why should we restrict ourselves when we become adults and be like everyone else? Of course we have to conform to society's standards, in order to belong, but we must always strive to be ourselves and do what we believe in.
It is only the beginning of the Difference of 25 blog, but we will be seeing many more beautiful pieces on the 25th of each month. We artists may not stick to one style throughout the course of this blog, because it all depends on our feelings and perceptions of certain words. For example, for some, a self portrait may be their self photo/image, but for some others it may be someone they aspire to be. That is how they see themselves. Having studied at college in a multicultural, multinational (international) environment I am highly interested to see what people have created from all over the world.
Looking forward to this clever idea of Roos and how it goes...
On another note, I am completing an assignment on "Monitor a safe workplace- Mining" for one of my TAFE units...
I pitched the presentation couple of weeks ago, in the voice that "OH&S is an ethical responsibility, even though there may be rules, laws and legal requirements for it.
I used images such as
AND
I have been watching The Gruen transfer/Gruen Planet for a while now and some of the discussions are very meaningful.
Anyways, my presentation worked well and hopefully I will be able to score well in the report, which is rather formal and data-oriented.
Former Miss World Aishwarya Rai has delivered a baby girl and I sincerely hope that she and her daughter will be an inspiration to people who commit female foeticide and injustice against women.
